On 3 August 2015 REPAK, the Kurdish Women’s Relations Office based in Erbil published this statement on the one-year anniversary of the ISIS attack on Sinjar/Shengal, which led to a horrific massacre in which thousands of Yezidi people were killed, thousands taken into sexual slavery and many more thousands were displaced.
Tortured by ISIS
For refugees, life in a camp is already very difficult, but it is made even more difficult when they are sick or injured. Medical care in general is sparse, with little access to health services and even less access to hospitals of any kind, people often suffer with no alternatives but to just “live with” the condition afflicting them.“I was put in prison and tortured every day, ISIS hung me by my hands for hours and hit me with cables, I was put in a dark room” relayed Mohammed Hussain Omar from Mosul.
