Sewing Gives Refugees Life Purpose

Recently, a young woman from the UK named Paula Horsfall volunteered to help Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation’s Sewing Initiative come to life in Baharka Refugee Camp.

Paula understood the value in helping refugee women learn a life skill that gives them purpose, but she also knew this skill translates to income generation which helps these women contribute to the family’s ability to purchase needed items.

BBC recently caught up with Paula as she described how she taught the refugee women to create beautiful bags from a material called Jajim. The sewing machines used in the refugee camp were donated by Japan, but the knowledge to use these machines in a purposeful way came from Paula’s sewing knowledge.

Paula told the refugee women that if they made the bags, she would make sure to sell them and 100% of the profits would go back to the refugee camp. For more information see https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155266724362936&id=153132638110668&_rdr
