Survival: When Fear Outweighs the Need for Food

What would it take for you to stay huddled inside your home for a week without any food? Would you be able to stay there when you become dizzy and faint from lack of food, while you also watch your children cry from hunger? When does hunger win over fear? Or does it ever?

Meet Sami and Hanna, children rescued from Mosul. Their father was killed by ISIS fighters. Sami who is about 2 ½ years old and her sister Hanna who is 8, were rescued along with their mother Sumaya by the Iraqi Army. They were found huddled in their home which had been severely damaged from the war. In a desperate physical state, these three human beings were taken to Mujasar Yarmuk Hospital. Yarmuk Hospital treats those people taken from the front lines.

Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation met these two children at Yarmuk Hospital where they were offered help. Sami chose some emergency food we carried while Hanna grabbed a large can of milk powder. Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation cooperates with the humanitarian organization Free Burma Rangers (FBR) also known as Free Kurdistan Rangers as they work directly on the frontlines with the Iraqi Army. Bring Hope provides emergency food and medication to the patients in Yarmuk Hospital, to date, Bring Hope has helped more than 36,000 internally displaced people (IDP’s) who are newly arrived from Mosul and has provided milk powder to more than 2000 children.
